New Delhi: Vaibhav Suryavanshi made history during Bihar’s opening match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Madhya Pradesh on Saturday, December 21. Known for consistently breaking records since his entry into domestic cricket, Vaibhav has once again etched his name in the annals of Indian cricket with another significant achievement.
At just 13 years and 269 days old, Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest Indian to play in List A cricket, breaking Ali Akbar‘s previous record. His debut at 14 years and 51 days in the 1999/2000 season marked the start of a bright future. Vaibhav also holds the record as the youngest Indian to feature in the Ranji Trophy, List A, and represent India at the U19 level.
In the IPL 2025 mega-auction, Vaibhav Suryavanshi made headlines by securing a spot with Rajasthan Royals for ₹1.10 crore, becoming the youngest player to be bid for in an IPL auction. If he debuts next year, he will set another record as the youngest player in IPL history.
Although Vaibhav Suryavanshi had a modest performance in his debut List A match, scoring only 4 runs before being dismissed, he impressed by hitting a boundary off the very first ball he faced. Bihar posted a total of 196 runs in 46.4 overs.
Madhya Pradesh, the runners-up in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, successfully chased down Bihar’s target in just 25.1 overs. Opener Harsh Gawli played a stellar knock of 83 off 63 balls, while captain Rajat Patidar added a quick 55 off 33 balls.
Bihar is set to face Tripura in their upcoming league match on Monday, December 23, while Madhya Pradesh will take on Delhi, featuring Ishant Sharma, in their next game.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi cricket journey
Vaibhav Suryavanshi was picked for the India B U-19 team in November 2023 for a quadrangular series. Despite modest performances, he impressed selectors, earning a spot in Bihar’s Ranji Trophy squad. At just 12 years and 284 days, Vaibhav became the youngest Indian to debut in first-class cricket since 1986. In September 2024, he made history with a 62-ball 104 in a youth Test against Australia, setting a record for the fastest century by an Indian.
